“Raising a
new generation of disciples in
Latin America, enabling them to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world.”
Our focus will be on University students and professionals. Why? Because there are over
1.5 million university students here without an evangelical witness and because
soon these students and today’s current professionals will be tomorrow’s
world leaders.
-
They
are the leaders in the modern world – reach them and you reach the world.
-
53%
of the population in Argentina is below the poverty level! Now is a
great time for the Christian professionals to enter these communities and
teach, and empower them with their skills so that they can learn how to make
a living.
-
The
marketplace in Argentina is full of evil and infected with corruption, now
is the time to empower the professional to be Salt and Light in this
darkness.
-
The
mindset of some in Argentina remains that in order to serve God you must be
within the confines of the church building, however, the professionals are
in positions of influence and can “minister” in ways clergy cannot.
Lets release them into this mission field.
-
In
order to transform society individuals need to be transformed by the
Master—there is no greater platform to display His glory than the
marketplace where individuals are being transformed.
Billy
Graham was asked what he would do different in his life if given the chance.
Graham replied, “I would have studied more. I would have gotten my Ph.D.
in anthropology.” In the same vain, British pastor John Stott was asked
to reflect on fifty years of ministry and give advice to a new generation of
Christian leaders. His response:
“I’d
want to say so many things. But my main exhortation would be this:
Don’t neglect your critical faculties. Remember that God is a rational
God, who has made us in His own image. God invites and expects us to
explore His double revelation, in nature and Scripture, with the minds He has
given us, and to go on in the development of a Christian mind to apply His
marvelous revealed truth to every aspect of the modern and post-modern
world.”
Both
men of influence and honor in the Christian world encourage us to neither reject
nor fear the academic and intellectual life. But rather to seek to be what
God wants us to be, excellent in our profession.
-
Students
are the most inquiring segment of society.
-
Today’s
students are tomorrows leaders.
-
Students
are a specialized field of ministry with distinct needs
-
The
university setting offers diverse opportunities, like no other place in
society, for effective and extensive evangelism.
-
The
history of religious revival is interwoven with campus awakenings.
Students have led the way in the greatest expansions of world evangelism.
-
Involvement
in campus ministry prepares students to serve in local churches.
-
The
Campus is Satan’s most impressive target.
-
The
majority of professionals in the workforce have attended or are attending a
university!
In his book, The
Crisis in the University, Sir Walter
Moberly makes this observation,
“On the
fundamental religious issue, the modern university intends to be, and supposes
it is, neutral, but it is not. Certainly it neither inculcates nor expressly repudiates belief in God.
But it does what is far more deadly than open rejection; it ignores Him. It is in this sense that the university today is atheist.
It is a fallacy to suppose that by omitting the subject, you teach nothing about it.
On the contrary, you teach that it is to be omitted, and that it is,
therefore, a matter of secondary importance. And you teach this not openly and explicitly, which would invite
criticism; you simply take it for granted and thereby, insinuate it silently,
insidiously, and all but irresistibly.”
Universities
around the world are the steering wheels for our society: as goes the campus, so
goes the culture. Our leaders are shaped in these halls of learning!
Today
they learn and tomorrow they lead. These future world-changers must be reached
with the gospel while they are more open than they will ever be again!
